The Government’s Schools White Paper sets out plans for generational reform of the SEND system, with the aim of ensuring more children receive the support they need earlier, closer to home and without families having to fight for help.
Topics for discussion include:
-
Earlier support for children with SEND so needs are identified and supported sooner
-
Improving mainstream school support so more children can succeed in local schools
-
More specialist SEND places as part of the government’s investment in new provision
-
Teacher training and support to ensure every teacher can effectively support pupils with SEND
-
How the system can work better for families, reducing delays and bureaucracy
-
How local services, schools and health providers can work together more effectively
Feedback from parents and carers will help inform Darren’s work locally and contribute to the national consultation on SEND reform.
This coffee morning is designed specifically for:
-
Parents and carers of children with SEND
-
Families currently going through the SEND assessment or EHCP process
-
Parents whose children receive SEND support in school
Many families face challenges navigating the current system, from long waiting times and complex processes to difficulties accessing the right support.
This event will provide a safe and informal space for parents and carers to share their experiences, raise concerns and help shape how SEND reforms are delivered both locally and nationally as part of Darren’s SEND Listening Tour across Southampton Itchen.
