The Prime Minister is right that social care in England is as unfair as American healthcare, and the time has come to take the difficult choices to fix it.

How can it be right that older residents in Southampton face losing their life savings and most treasured possessions when they get sick, in many cases being pushed into financial difficulty through no fault of their own?

It’s time for a new settlement: protecting a State Pension that rises every year, no care charges, and a National Care Service that provides older people with free personal care to give everyone peace of mind in later life.

I’m holding a coffee morning later this month to discuss this and hear your views about social care. It’s open to all my constituents and you can book your space today.

If you’re interested in hearing more directly from the Prime Minister, his in-depth posts on either Facebook or Reddit are a good place to start.
