More than 500 of you responded to my recent social media post about Harbour Lights and the Ocean Village masterplan. Here’s the background, for those of you who might be unfamiliar with the story.
Last week, Bargate Labour Councillor Ginnie Lambert and I met with Mat, the general manager of Harbour Lights, and his team to talk about the long-term future of this beloved cinema. While I was there, I was reminded why this has become one of the jewels of this part of the waterside.
From conversations with Mat and his team, I’m pleased that there is no immediate threat to the cinema and that hardworking local Labour ward councillors are exploring ways to safeguard the building’s future over the longer-term.
I will continue to emphasise the importance of places like Harbour Lights in my conversations with everyone who is part of shaping the future of Ocean Village; as I saw clearly for myself today, Harbour Lights is just the sort of place that makes people want to visit, live and work in Ocean Village and I hope that it will remain part of the city’s cultural landscape for years to come.
