Can you help celebrate the best of your local high street by nominating a favourite local business for an award?

I’m really pleased to launch my second annual Small Business Awards to celebrate the range and variety of local businesses in my Southampton Itchen constituency. Last year, I received nearly 300 nominations for over 40 small businesses. The four winning businesses were Riann Care, The Bunker, Miss Ellie’s Café and Julie’s Dance Studio.

I’ll visit the winners of this year’s awards on or around Small Business Saturday on Saturday 6 December to present the them with their awards. I’ll also invite the winners to Parliament to share their views on how the government can support local businesses.

It only takes a few minutes to nominate your favourite business or businesses by completing this short online form. But hurry – the deadline for nominations is Sunday 23 November.

Small businesses really are the beating heart of our communities in Southampton. From the local coffee shop, to arts centres and everything in between, we’re lucky in Southampton to have such a great range of small businesses. It was clear from the response to last year’s competition just how important these are to local people who value them as a place to shop, meet and socialise and I’m really pleased to once again be able to recognise the special contribution that they make.

I look forward to reading your nominations!
